This retreat takes place at Alladale Wilderness Reserve, a potent combination of complete wilderness and a re-imagined and re-vitalised landscape. As such, a powerful metaphor for who we are.
The experience will provide space and support for your re-enchantment: plunging into your own history and ecology in relationship with the land. Our practices and excursions will renew the sense of wonder and presence that is your birthright and open channels of creativity to strengthen your sense of who you are.
Through hiking, foraging, wildcrafting and exploration of the rugged terrain, you’ll re-kindle relationship with the land. Through Sacred Warrior movement practice, you’ll reveal innate wisdom and strength. With elemental herbalism, you’ll experience the interdependence between the individual and environment. Through storytelling, you’ll explore your personal story and how your narrative influences each and every experience. Join us on this healing adventure to reclaim, release and rewild.

Vanessa Chakour is the founder of Sacred Warrior whose mission is to deepen relationship with ourselves and the environment. An herbalist, artist, activist, meditation teacher, former competitive boxer and trainer, Vanessa’s teachings are a dynamic blend of her vast personal experiences over the last two decades. Her unique approach is rooted in the belief that healing happens through re-awakening an intuitive connection to ourselves, the natural world and our own “inner-wild.”
Vanessa works as matchmaker between participants and nature, inspiring personal relationships with the plants and animals around us. These intimate understandings create eco-defenders and Sacred Warriors, impassioned to defend our planet and home, so necessary at this time. She accomplishes this through curating embodied experiences in her workshops, herbal apprenticeships, and retreats in partnership with wildlife organizations.
A fierce defender and advocate of the land, Vanessa embodies the practices she teaches. She has spearheaded collaborative land-based education programs to inspire ecological awareness and land stewardship for the benefit of the earth and all species. Vanessa teaches ongoing Herbalism Courses and workshops in NYC and throughout the northeast, and runs Rewilding Retreats in New York, Costa Rica and Scotland.
Ancel Mitchell was born and raised in Scotland and has lived in England, the US and currently lives in Costa Rica. Her deep connection to nature and sense of place feeds her creativity and curiosity which push her ever deeper into exploring the natural environment. A waldorf educator for over 20 years, Ancel delights in bringing new and different perspectives into her teaching, making her classes rich, fresh and fun. Bouyed along by a sense of magic and an ability to consciously listen she holds space for story: “Stories hold us, they rock us to sleep in their arms, they allow us to venture forth into territory we fear, they have our back when the terrain gets rough. Through story we can meet ourselves anywhere, we can find ourselves at home anywhere. Stories connect our inner and outer selves, they are our two way bridge to nature, and home.”
Ancel teaches plant ally and western herbalism on Sacred Warrior Costa Rican retreats. When she’s not teaching she’s enjoying working with plants and animals, making medicines and chocolate and enjoying her farm.
