Meet collaborator and co-founder of Gaelic Roots retreats, workshops, and educational initiatives, Àdhamh Ó Broin. In this wonderful video interview with Common Space, he talks about his work to revive an Argyllshire dialect of Gaelic, the language spoken by many of my ancestors. Àdhamh is the first person in 80 years to raise a family of fluent speakers of his local Gaelic dialect which remains on the verge of extinction. Although globally renowned for his work as Scottish Gaelic advisor to the Outlander film production, Àdhamh’s daily preoccupation keeps him much closer to home and the long overdue decolonisation of Scotland’s people through reconnection with the carrying stream of indigenous culture, language, and spirituality.
We’ll be sharing more of our collaboration soon. It’s been an incredible inspiration to work with someone so aligned in every way. Our next retreat is November 12th-17th in the Scottish Highlands. We have 2 rooms left. You’ll find that information HERE
ABOUT GAELIC ROOTS:
Gaelic Roots retreats, workshops, and educational initiatives are a collaboration between Vanessa Chakour of Sacred Warrior and Àdhamh Ó Broin of Scottish Gaelic Consultancy. Our offerings aim to assist in rewilding ourselves, our culture and the land by reclaiming indigenous Gaelic language, tradition, and spirituality along with earth-based skills of herbalism and ecology for regenerative living. We’re looking back to move forward in alignment with the earth. We’re merging the past with the present to heal the trauma of displacement from our earth-based roots. We offer inclusive space for cultural exchange where we can reclaim skills to heal ourselves, our communities and the planet. In the midst of a climate crisis and overall disconnection from nature, it’s time to reinvigorate the holistic life-ways of our ancestors in order to move forward sustainably. This is also a place for people of Gaelic ancestry to ground and heal through connection with their indigenous language, traditions, and spiritual practices.
