Running with the Wolves

“Each of us, at least once in our lives, hears the inner call.
Some call it the wild woman within, who seeks to be heard,
to return her tamed daughters to their natural, intuitive state,
to break the chains that hold them so that they may run free…”
~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PH.D., Women Who Run With the Wolves

RUNNING WITH THE WOLVES

I’ve been a passionate animal activist since I was young and it’s one thing I’ve grieved throughout my life; the disconnection from the wild and the animals that live here.

One of Sacred Warrior’s partnerships is with the Wolf Conservation Center. Only an hour away from NYC, The Wolf Conservation Center educates people about the true nature of wolves, their vital role in our ecosystem and reintroduces critically endangered wolves into the wild. There are generally between 20 and 30 wolves (fluctuates because some are released) that live on the land in enclosures, kept as wild as possible. I first became involved with the Conservation Center around the time when wolves were losing their protection as an endangered species. The threat hit me on a visceral level and I couldn’t help but get involved. It breaks my heart that we have to interfere at all to ensure the survival of wolves and many other species. If we truly understood our connection with all sentient beings and each other, I don’t see how we could possibly wreak the havoc that we do.

Wolves are essential for a healthy ecosystem. This video about the reintroduction to yellowstone is a perfect illustration of that. We have suffered tremendously from our disconnection with nature. It is time we learn to live in harmony, educate ourselves and reconnect to the wild—inside and out.
